Currie & Spence-Nasim Lead Southern California ITF Success

Six Southern Californians, selected by the USTA, represented the US in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Young Seniors World Championships in Antalya, Turkey, between March 16th and 21st. The tournament, the senior equivalent of the Davis/Fed Cup competitions, was played on red clay.

Tracie Currie of Ventura and Debbie Spence-Nasim of Carlsbad were members of the bronze medal winning Women’s 40 Young Cup team. Spence-Nasim won the deciding point to clinch the victory in the fourteen-country event.

Gee Gee Garvin of Carlsbad captained the Women’s 35 Suzanne Lenglen Cup team that finished sixth of the 14 nations.

Ross Duncan of Laguna Beach was the playing captain, and Marcio Pepe of Laguna Hills was a member of the Men’s 35 Italia Cup team that was seventh out of a field of 16 participants.

Michael Chang of Anaheim captained the Men’s 40 Tony Trabert team to eleventh place in a field of 18 teams.
