RAMP UP & LEAP TENNIS IN PE PROGRAM NEWS

Pam ShriverPam Shriver’s love for tennis and kids brightened the playground at the local Carson school last Thursday, 2/25. The USA olympic gold medalist, WTA champion, ESPN broadcaster, and mother of three youth tennis players spent the day teaching Leapwood first to fifth graders to volley, rally, and show good sportsmanship. Coach Pam kept their feet moving and racquets up while handing out clever nicknames and positive compliments. Everyone watched in awe during her back and forth friendly volley games with Coach Jay and Coach Rick. February’s PE day coaching effort included Sherri McQuaid, Riley McQuaid, Amber Gilbert, Poris Jetli, Britton Henrikson, Jay Leavitt. Rick Buchta, Bella Buchta and Peggy Bott.

RAMP Tennis has donated over 600 volunteer coaching hours to Leapwood students since the partnership began in October 2013. First Break Academy – RAMP Tennis hosted a Teacher Play Day on Tuesday, 2/23 at the StubHub Center. Southern California Tennis Association’s Tiffany Geller and Tiffany Mai participated. RAMP CEO, Rick Buchta, First Break Executive Director, Peggy Bott, and Senior Director of StubHub Center Community Affairs and StubHub Center Foundation, AEG, Tamala Lewis, welcomed Leapwood Principal Camellia Hudley and her staff to the Tennis Pavilion. Rick, Peggy, Tamala, and Camellia serve as Board of Directors for First Break Academy, non profit corp.
