Guadalajara Tournament Attracts Competitive US Seniors

At the end of January, Guadalajara Country Club (GCC) in Jalisco, Mexico, hosted The XXXIV Seniors Tennis Tournament.  One of North America’s premier senior events, the round robin competition includes men and women, in age groups starting at 35+ through 75 years old. An inviting locale which opened in 1942 with impressive golf and tennis facilities, GCC promotes not just exceptional tennis play but also an inviting social experience for all athletes.

This year’s 34th annual event welcomed players from host Mexico, plus the United States, Canada, France and England – including a number of players from Wimbledon. Among the tournament champions, SoCal’s Dennis Bowers/Jess Torres won in Men’s 65s (1st Flight).

Off the court, various social events enhanced the experience for players of all ages. A cocktail party to introduce the draws included live music, dancing, and outstanding food. A second tournament event invoked the local culture and spirit with mariachis and folkloric dancers, and the closing ceremony was a formal dinner and dance, including awards and trophies, that lasted until the wee hours. Some visitors suggested it was some of the best food they’d ever had! Each competitor also received a GCC winter vest with the Club’s embroidered logo.

Tournament organizers are eager to welcome even more players next year for the tournament’s 35th year pinnacle – mark your calendars!

  6. Here is some information about the tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico: Tournament dates for 2018 are February 6 through 10. The format is men’s and women’s doubles, round robin. You should have your own partner but they will provide one for you (you take your chances). Age groups are 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75. Some age groups will have several “flights” if there are numerous entrants. The 1st flight being the strongest. Too much information to give here. I will make myself available to answer questions. I am in touch with the tournament director and can pass on info once it becomes available. Jess Torres (909) 917-6579 cell.
It is a wonderful tournament and well worth the trip!
