Tennis On Campus Section Championship Coming Up

tennis-on-campusThe Southern California Tennis On Campus (TOC) Section Championship is scheduled for February 6th and 7th at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont.  More than twenty school will convene for a chance to represent the Southern California section at the USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship this coming spring.

In last year’s 2015 Section Championship, UCLA finished first, edging out Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the final. UC Santa Barbara claimed third place over USC. The top four finishers earned automatic bids to the National Championships, but two more spots were open for the taking.

Southern California had a stellar performance at the 2014 Tennis On Campus Spring Invitational with USC and UCLA finishing 1st and 2nd. Both universities were given bids to the next year’s National Championship, but the schools earned their own way into the draw by finishing at the top of the pack in the Section Championship as mentioned above. Southern California could then add the 5th and 6th place finishers at the Section Championship, allowing UC Irvine and Pepperdine to take the last two spots.

Leading up to the 2015 National Championships, USC pulled out of the competition, allowing University of San Diego to fill in. Six Southern California teams competed, with UCLA finishing fourth in the nation.

The Section Championship is the pinnacle of the Southern California Tennis On Campus season with high-level competition, social media contests, and fun off-court activities.

Four Southern California colleges will advance to Nationals through the section’s automatic bid allotment. USC has already advanced because it won the 2015 Spring Invitational.
