Goldberg – High School Athlete Of The Year

The Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame named Ben Goldberg its Male High School Athlete of the Year. Goldberg, who just began his freshman year at UCLA, led Palisades Charter High School to multiple Los Angeles Unified School District team championships during his career there. In 2015, he won the singles title defeating Palisade teammate, Jake Sands, 7-6, 6-4. He will be feted at a ceremony that will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center on Saturday, January 28, 2017. (UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen was a previous winner.)

Maccabi Games Tennis Tryouts

Qualified Jewish Tennis Players, between ages 14 and 85+, have an opportunity to tryout for Team USA. The 20th World Maccabi Games will take place in Israel, July 4 – 18, 2017. More than 9,000 athletes, from 80 countries, will participate in the competition featuring 42 sports.

The tryout dates and locations include:

  • Juniors and Open Tennis – November 5 – 6, in North Merrick and Bethpage, New York
  • Masters Tennis – October 22-23, in Boca Raton
  • Grand Masters Tennis – November 14th in Los Angeles

(Grand Masters applicants will tryout in October in Boca Raton – only – and at this time, only applicants in the 65-69 division will be required to attend. All other Grand Masters interested in taking part are welcome, but will not be required to attend the tryout, unless there are enough competitors to warrant holding the event.)

  • Doug Pacht and Jody Helfend of Calabasas – Masters Co-Chairmen – & Peter Simel of New York City
